Our Vision & Purpose

Who we are and what we do as Anthem can best be understood through the phrase: becoming resilient disciples who are a faithful family in the face of cultural coercion, live a vibrant life int he Spirit, and are empowered as a courageous mission presence. A mouthful, we know. In the four sermons below, we explain what this means and how they shape and inform who we are and what we do. 

  • Resilient Disciples

    Resilient disciples grow to be with Jesus, more like Jesus, and do what he did, not in spite of, but because of our location and placement in a culture that exerts enormous coercive power. 

  • Faithful Family in the face of cultural coercion

    A faithful family is radically devoted to God and one another in the face of cultural coercion. 

  • Vibrant Life in the Spirit

    Vibrant living is abiding with Jesus in the every day stuff of life And bending our liturgy for living toward the goal of becoming more like Jesus. 

  • Empowered as Courageous Missional Presence 

    As a apprentices of Jesus, we are saved by the work of Jesus and filled with the Spirit of Jesus, to accomplish the mission of Jesus. 

Discipleship Values

Who we are shapes what we do. We believe that a community of people who live intentionally in the Way of Jesus will begin to change and grow in these ways: 

  • WE GROW IN APPLYING THE GOSPEL TO EVERY AREA OF LIFE

    We believe the whole Bible points to Jesus and his work reconciling people back to God, so we grow in applying the gospel to every area of life, even when it’s easier to be the center of our own life. 

  • WE REPRODUCE DISCIPLES, LEADERS, AND CHURCHES INTO THE NATIONS

    We believe God’s story is a multiplying story, so, we reproduce disciples, leaders, and churches into the nations, even when it hurts to send out our friends, our family, our best.

  • WE LIVE OUT DISCIPLESHIP WITH A COMMUNITY OF BELIEVERS

    We believe God is a relational God, so, we live out discipleship with a community of believers, even when culture tells us we can do life on our own.

  • WE ARE ON MISSION TO PROCLAIM AND DEMONSTRATE JESUS IN OUR LIVES EVERY DAY

    We believe every follower of Jesus is sent by God, so, we are on mission to proclaim and demonstrate Jesus in our lives every day, even when it disrupts, easy, comfortable, and stable.

  • WE LEAD, WORSHIP AND PRAY IN FULL DEPENDENCE ON THE HOLY SPIRIT

    We believe reliance on the Holy Spirit is necessary for the body of Christ to function properly so, we lead, worship and pray in full dependence on the Holy Spirit, even when it's easier to operate in our own strengths and abilities.

  • WE CULTIVATE, AND ARE SHAPED BY THE EPHESIANS 4 GIFTS

    We believe Jesus gave gifts (apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds and teachers) to equip and bring His church to maturity, so, we cultivate, and are shaped by the Ephesians 4 gifts, even when this pushes against our patterns and traditions.

  • WE ACT AND GIVE GENEROUSLY

    We believe God is a generous God, so, we act and give generously, even when it stretches us.
